Watch of the Day

OW 5409 ***Waltham 18 size Appleton, Tracy & Co Chronodrometer 16 jewels Keywind/Keyset, from the rear Very Nice Appleton Tracy signed coin silver hunting case, with a timer button on the top side single sunk porcelain dial, with time of day in a subsidiary dial at the 12, a seconds dial at the 6 position, and a sweep second hand at the center post for timing, signed Appleton, Tracy & Co, Waltham Mass. Chronodrometer Patent Feb. 8, 1859. The outer chapter of the dial is set up in 4, 4 minute sections, as the sweep second hand rotates once every 4 minutes. roman numerals, blue moon hands, full plate gilt movement, micrometric regulator (13857) circa 1859 Very Very hard to find in the original case! ... Scarce ... only 400 made and most of the remaining pieces are not in the original AT Case! The first mass-produced American stopwatch! The main reason this watch is rare, or scarce is it was an odd design and not practical. Both the time of day and the timer ran off the same train, so when using the timer function, the whole watch stopped when the timer was stopped. Not a smart design, and sales were probably slow. Waltham had more runs scheduled for production of this watch, but they were never made. Still a very interesting piece of American watch making history! This is a very nice one! $7995.00 plus S/H VIEW
